If your doctor has sent you for a scan, the different names can be confusing. Here's a simple guide to the main types of diagnostic imaging we offer at Hargreaves Hospital in Mandeville — all under one roof.
X-ray
Quick and reliable, an X-ray is ideal for looking at bones and the chest, and for spotting fractures. It takes just minutes.
Ultrasound
An ultrasound uses sound waves — no radiation — to view soft tissues in real time, which is why it's used in pregnancy and for the abdomen, pelvis and blood vessels.
CT scan
A CT scan combines many X-ray views into detailed cross-sectional images, valuable for trauma, tumours and vascular conditions.
Mammogram
A mammogram is a specialised breast X-ray used for screening and diagnosis. Early detection saves lives, so don't put it off.
